Russell Street Viaduct over Monroe Street
Baltimore, MD
|
City of Baltimore Office of Transportation
|
Mercado Consultants aided in the design of this highly visible corridor into Baltimore City. The Russell Street Viaduct over Monroe Street is a major route into the City of Baltimore. Considered the 'Gateway' into Baltimore, it is a preferred route to Camden Yards at Oriole Park and the Ravens Stadium. Our office provided survey, structural and civil engineering services for this project including:
Design of the new concrete roadway (on new vertical alignment), pavement markings and signage plans, in addition to the typical sections, super elevation charts and required concrete pavement joint layouts and details.
|
The maintenance of traffic was challenging due to the presence of ramps to I-95 and the proximity of Ravens Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Close coordination with the City, the Orioles and the Ravens representatives was necessary. Use of a Temporary Moveable Concrete Barrier was implemented to accommodate the high volumes of daily commuter traffic as well as events in the downtown area, as the lane usage was switched daily to allow for traffic into or out of the City as peak flows or events dictated.
Coordination efforts were required between the City, the Orioles, the Ravens, Inner Harbor Event planners and 4 consultants. |

Our Structural Department designed two new abutments and the development of more than 4,000 deck elevations for a skewed, curved and flared framing plan.
In addition, the Survey Department performed survey to supplement the existing survey taken by the City of Baltimore to locate walls and parapets that were critical to the design process, as well as right-of-way verification, utility and utility easement location and test hole location stake-out.
MD Route 144 WB Ride Sharing Facility
Hancock, MD |
Maryland State Highway District 6 |
We prepared the site plan for the expansion of this ride sharing facility. Tasks included site grading, storm water management, erosion and sediment control, maintenance of traffic, pavement striping and development of base mapping. Coordinating with the Rails to Trails program was required due to a trail head being located adjacent to the site.

Little Falls Parkway over Willett Branch
Montgomery County, MD |
Montgomery County Department of Maryland State Highway and Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commissions |
Due to a beam collapse and subsequent need to replace the bridge, we designed and developed of the complete set of roadway plans including horizontal and vertical alignment, typical cross sections with pavement design, erosion and sediment control. And coordinated with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
