Mercado Consultants, Inc. Civil Engineering Department provides site, highway and roadway design services to State, Federal and local agencies.  We have performed design for the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and associated agencies, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), District Department of Transportation (DDOT), the United States Forest Service (USFS), Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the City of Baltimore and other municipalities in Maryland.  See SAMPLE PROJECTS for further information. 

Our department has experience in design of bridge approaches and roadways, including rehabilitation and reconstruction, site development and facility layout.  The civil department utilizes InRoads for developing a complete highway design package. We design horizontal and vertical alignments, making use of templates, including super elevation as needed, to generate grading and cross sections.  We make use of Micro Station and/or AutoCAD for preparation of typical sections and pavement details, as well as other relevant design details. We work closely with our survey and structural engineering departments to provide a quality comprehensive package.

The Civil Department also performs Concept Studies for site improvements (insufficient sight distance, inadequate turning radii, etc.), ADA upgrades and alternatives analysis making use of Kepner-Tregoe.

• Virginia Railway Express: Crossroads Rail Yard, Spotsylvania, Virginia
• WMATA: Site layout for several new parking garages including Greenbelt, White Flint, and Glenmont Stations.
• Prince George's County Public Schools: Erosion and Sediment Control and permits for parking lot drop off locations for four elementary schools (Fort Foote, Frances Fuchs, Allenwood and Valley View)
• DC Department of Motor Vehicles: Redesign of parking lot, including ADA sidewalk and parking layout, storm design, and SWM Bioretention areas.
