Structural engineering for transportation projects constitutes a key component of Mercado Consultants’ practice with projects ranging from major multi-span highway bridges to simple span pedestrian bridges, culverts, noise barriers and retaining walls. Whether concrete (precast, prestressed or cast-in-place), steel or timber, our experienced structural staff provides innovative solutions to new design, reconstruction, rehabilitation and widening of simple and continuous span bridges and related structures. Our engineers are experienced in the design of jointless bridges (including integral abutments), truss bridges, MSE walls, curved structures, noise abatement systems and scour protection systems for substructures. The numerous integrated software packages our office maintains assist our staff in developing cost-effective design solutions and clear CADD drawings.

Mercado Consultants’ staff have been involved in the federal effort to improve the Nation’s transportation infrastructure and have performed load-ratings on existing structures, developed repairs for deteriorating structures including historic structures using various materials, and worked on projects with significant site constraints and located in environmentally sensitive areas.

Familiarity with Local, State and Federal Agency Codes, Standards and Specifications and the requirements necessary to develop professional quality contract bid packages has come from our years of experience working with many State DOTs, the USDA National Forest Service and Local County Governments.
